March 2026
It didn't take long from the first time Opal out her foot into Kalkras’s stirrup that she was sitting astride the red colt with Jamie holding him steady.
While there had been a few tense moments the fireworks Jamie had expected never fully surfaced much to Opal’s delight as the colt worked through each new step with nervous trust.
“He's taking it all pretty well,” Jamie said as he led Kalkara in a steady lap of the indoor arena.
“He certainly still feels tense. Not particularly explosive, just thinking things through,” Opal noted as they walked. She was being very conscious of her gentle contact on the reins and keeping her legs consistent against the colt's side as he walked out.
“A few more sessions like this and we'll let him off the lead,” Opal said to Jamie with a smile as she used the reins to steer Kalkara in a turn around Jamie as they reached the end of the arena.
“Sounds good, he's going well with all of this so far,” Jamie agreed beaming as he watched Opal on the youngster.
